Understanding the Need

Shirodhara systems are more than simply a bowl and a stand for dispensing oil. Comfort, safety and consistency depend on precise flow control, effortless height adjustment and long-term reliability.

From the very beginning, the goal of this project was to create a mechanical solution that would meet all of these requirements with confidence and durability. Every detail was reconsidered with usability, precision and longevity in mind.

Early Concepts

As with every custom project, the development of the Shirodhara system began by identifying the right components.

Different copper vessels and forms were researched and evaluated. After careful consideration, a copper planter proved to be the most suitable starting point. Even then, its suitability could only be confirmed once it arrived at the workshop and became part of the first assembly.

Uncertainty is a natural part of every custom project. The final design only begins to take shape after the first components come together and real-world testing begins.

First Prototype

Once the copper vessel arrived at the workshop, the first mechanical components were machined and the system began to take shape.

The initial assembly allowed the design to be evaluated not only on paper, but under real working conditions. The relationship between the parts, their proportions, balance and overall appearance were all carefully reviewed.

While some elements performed exactly as intended, others required refinement. Each revision brought the system one step closer to a more reliable and functional solution.

Flow Control

The flow rate of the oil is one of the most critical aspects of any Shirodhara system. For this reason, several approaches were explored while developing the mechanism responsible for precise flow control.

Different valves, fittings and sealing methods were tested repeatedly. Wherever necessary, components were redesigned until the system delivered smooth, consistent and dependable performance.

The objective was to create a mechanism that is easy to adjust, highly precise and capable of providing years of reliable operation.

Thorn Mill Aesthetics & Final Result

The Shirodhara Project represents Thorn Mill's approach to solving real-world problems through thoughtful design, precision engineering and meticulous craftsmanship.

Throughout the development process, aesthetics were considered just as important as functionality. Every proportion, material choice and mechanical detail was refined not only to perform flawlessly, but also to create a timeless visual presence.

The final result is more than a reliable mechanical system—it is an object designed to complement the space in which it is used while preserving its value for years to come.

Every custom project reflects Thorn Mill's belief that engineering and aesthetics should always exist in perfect balance.
