Pirinç Neden Zamanla Güzelleşir?

Why Brass Becomes More Beautiful Over Time

A brand-new brass object has a smooth, bright, and flawless surface. At Thorn Mill, however, we believe its true story begins the moment it leaves the workshop.

Brass is one of the few materials that naturally evolves with use. Every touch, every journey, and every passing year leaves subtle marks on its surface. This is not wear in the negative sense—it is the gradual development of character.

Patina Is Not a Flaw—It's a Story

When exposed to air, moisture, and the natural oils of your hands, brass gradually develops a patina. This is a completely natural process, and no two pieces will age in exactly the same way.

Two brass lighters or pens made in the same workshop may look nearly identical when new, but after years of use, each will develop its own unique appearance.

Every mark, every subtle color change, and every polished edge reflects the habits and experiences of its owner. To us, this is one of brass's greatest qualities.

Why We Leave Brass Uncoated

Many brass products are coated with lacquer or other protective finishes to preserve their original appearance.

At Thorn Mill, we take a different approach.

We leave brass in its natural state because we believe the patina that develops over time becomes part of the product's identity.

Rather than trying to preserve the appearance of day one forever, we value the unique character that only time can create.

Can Patina Be Removed?

Absolutely.

Patina is a natural surface layer and is not permanent.

If you prefer the bright appearance of new brass, you can restore much of its original shine in just a few minutes using a soft microfiber cloth and a quality metal polish.

This process removes only the natural oxidation from the surface and does not harm the material or affect the product's durability.

Some owners enjoy watching their brass develop a rich patina over the years, while others prefer to polish it regularly to maintain its original shine. We believe both approaches are equally valid.

The beauty of natural brass is that the choice is entirely yours.

The Thorn Mill Philosophy

We do not create products simply to look beautiful on the day they are made.

We design them to be used for decades, to accompany their owners through everyday life, and to age with dignity.

To us, brass is more than just a material. It is a living surface that becomes more personal, more distinctive, and more beautiful with every passing year.
