TERN Anodized Titanium — Pocket Fountain Pen

TERN Anodized Titanium is a compact pocket fountain pen individually machined from Grade 2 titanium and anodized in the Thorn Mill workshop in İznik, Türkiye.

The titanium surface is anodized, creating a distinctive blue-violet tone that shifts subtly depending on the light and viewing angle. No paint, lacquer, or colored coating is applied — the color is created directly on the titanium surface through the anodizing process.

At just 103 mm (4.06 in) long when closed and 11 mm (0.43 in) in diameter, TERN Anodized Titanium weighs approximately 23 g (0.81 oz) including the ink cartridge. Titanium’s high strength-to-weight ratio makes it exceptionally light for everyday pocket carry while maintaining a solid and durable construction.

TCR — Thread Cover Ring

One of TERN’s defining features is the TCR (Thread Cover Ring) system developed by Thorn Mill.

When the pen is closed, the TCR covers the threads at the rear of the body, maintaining TERN’s clean, uninterrupted cylindrical profile. When the cap is posted for writing, the TCR can be moved to the front, where it covers the exposed cap threads.

This allows TERN to maintain a clean, finished form both when closed and while in use.

Black Kaweco Nib

TERN Anodized Titanium is fitted with a black Kaweco fountain pen nib, creating a subtle contrast with the blue-violet anodized titanium surface.

The black nib complements the changing tones of the anodized finish and the mechanical character of the pen.

TERN uses readily available Standard International Short ink cartridges, so no proprietary cartridge system is required.

Individually Machined & Anodized

TERN is not a mass-produced pen.

Each component is individually machined from Grade 2 titanium on a manual lathe. The threads and knurled details are machined individually and the surfaces are finished by hand. The titanium components are then prepared for anodizing, individually anodized  in the Thorn Mill workshop, and fitted together during final assembly.

Because both the machining and anodizing are carried out individually, slight variations in surface tone may occur from one TERN to another. Anodized titanium may appear more blue, violet, or darker depending on the light and viewing angle.

These subtle variations are a natural result of each pen being individually machined and anodized.

Optional Hand-Turned Olive Wood Case

A matching presentation case, individually hand-turned from natural olive wood, is available separately for TERN.

Each case features its own unique grain pattern and handcrafted brass hardware, making every piece one of a kind. Designed specifically around TERN’s compact dimensions, the case provides both protection and a distinctive presentation for the pen.
